Brief - With the homeowners doubling up as main contractor and interior designer, any automation solution had to not only function ?awlessly but seamlessly blend with the custom aesthetic. Ease of use was also a primary concern for the client. The homeowner’s main challenge was to effectively control lighting, shading, audio and other subsystems with simple operation. The owner was using premium materials in cabling, etc. and wanted a compatible system that offered robust equipment and excellent performance that could withstand environmental effects of the region. With the complex control environment the home owners required concise user interfaces that allowed for a combination of speci?c room control and mobile device control of all the sub-systems across the property.

Solution - Every system in the home is connected to a central master controller. All the systems - communications, security, A/V, lighting control – integrate ?awlessly. An in-wall touch-screen was installed in the living area to grant users control over lighting, cooling, audio zones, AV sources. Over 60 Vantage keypads populate every room of the home, controlling everything from lights to audio volume without interrupting the beautiful interior aesthetic. Miniature recessed sensors – the smallest currently available in the world – are discretely placed throughout the home to provide automated lighting.

Wireless remotes control the media, which features an HD projector, recessed TV screen and a 5.1 surround sound system from Bang & Olufsen. The addition of a central backbone made it easy to route the existing satellite service to multiple locations in the home. The rack was neatly organized to allow for future expansions of the video system that could include blu-ray players, Apple TVs etc. A central media server in conjunction with the iPod docking stations, created an ampli?ed multi-room audio system with access to a comprehensive audio library that included ?ve sources and more than 10,000 internet radio stations. Lighting in each room responds to commands from Vantage keypad or any one of the touch-screens. With a Vantage control system, users can also raise or lower shades, trigger lighting, view cameras, even activate security from anywhere in the home. Sustainable living has never been easier with the addition of the Energy Management Solution, which monitors the home’s power consumption, suggests and implements energy management strategies, and displays actual real-time monetary energy savings.
